Katy Beals was born in Seattle and grew up in Austin, Texas. She returned to her home state for her undergraduate studies at the University of Washington. Throughout her time at UW, Kathryn was on the women’s volleyball team, where she ended up sustaining an ACL injury. While in recovery, she was inspired to pursue Orthopaedics. Kathryn went on to complete her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at Arcadia University in Pennsylvania. She enjoys assisting in surgery and her goal is to deliver the same amount of empathy, care, and thoroughness to her patients that she was afforded as a patient herself.

Shelby started his medical career as a Sergeant in the US Army for 4 years where he served a medical specialist. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. He spent a 6 month deployment in Somalia operating as independent medic and a year in a Forward Support Battalion in South Korea. Upon his honorable discharge, He attended the University of Washington while working as an Emergency room technician at Overlake Hospital Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Washington, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 2000.
Shelby grew up in Northern California before being stationed at Fort Lewis in 1991. He enjoys spending his time with his family, staying active while playing soccer and boxing. He is an avid wine connoisseur, enjoys traveling, and photography.

Elizabeth Elander earned an undergraduate degree in Biology from Harding University and went on to acquire her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies in 2013. After graduating, she began working as a Physician Assistant in orthopedics in Davenport, Iowa. She later moved to Alaska, where she also worked in orthopedics for almost 5 years. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery.
She also enjoys being involved in research and PA education. Liz is excited to be working with the POSM team, primarily with joints, trauma, and foot and ankle alongside Dr. Ryan Nathe, Dr. Erik Magnusson, and Dr. Silas Marshall.

Kathryn enjoys working with patients to help them get back to doing the things they love. She understands that joint pain can not only affect a patient physically but also emotionally and she wants to help patients regain control of their lives. She plays an integral role throughout the surgical process; she prepares patients for surgery, assists during the procedure, and sees patients post-operatively as well. Her goal is to give patients the confidence they need to feel good about proceeding with joint replacement surgery.
Kathryn earned her undergraduate degree in athletic training from the University of Utah, followed by a Master’s degree in Applied Anatomy and Physiology from Boston University. After working for 2 years as an athletic trainer, she returned to school to get a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Utah. She is proud to be among the growing number of women in the orthopedic field.

Dana P. Jergens joined Proliance Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in 2012. Originally from Gilmore City, Iowa, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Buena Vista University in 2004. Dana then completed his first Master’s degree in Cardiac Rehabilitation from Eastern Illinois University in 2006. While completing his education at Eastern Illinois, he also worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer providing medical coverage for multiple NCAA Division I athletic teams.
Following graduation at EIU, he then relocated to Boston, MA to work in sports medicine with the New England Patriots. Dana went on to earn his Master’s of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2010 from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. While at NEU, he completed an elective orthopedic clinical rotation at Boston’s prestigious New England Baptist Hospital. Prior to coming on staff at POSM, Dana worked for two years as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant for Meli Orthopedics in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. When he has free time, Dana enjoys volleyball, softball, hiking, going to the movies, and spending time with friends and family.
Dana is a board-certified Physician Assistant and holds professional memberships in both the Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery (PAOS) and the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).

Dan’s priority is to do all he can to take the fear out of surgery. He understands that joint replacement surgery can provoke a lot of anxiety and he will take the time to give patients a clear understanding of the process. His experience preparing patients for surgery, assisting during surgery, and seeing them through the recovery give him in- depth knowledge in which patients find both comfort and confidence.
After working for 8 years in the academic, research, and clinical settings as a medical photographer, he returned to school, earning a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences from The George Washington University’s Physician Assistant Program in Washington, DC.

Kathryn works at our Ortho Care Now clinic in Issaquah, accepting walk-in visits for urgent orthopedic concerns. She enjoys providing general orthopedic care, with emphasis on acute orthopedic injuries, including fractures, muscle strains, ligament sprains, contusions, and simple lacerations. To ensure optimum patient care, she collaborates closely with all of our surgeons.
Originally from Michigan, Kathryn earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Science from Michigan State University in 2012. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Physician Assistant studies at Central Michigan University in 2015. Since graduating, she has maintained her board-certification with the NCCPA. She holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Washington Academy of Physician Assistants.
When not working, she enjoys hiking, skiing, yoga, reading, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her husband.

Ryan was born in Utah and began his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University. After spending two years in Jamaica, he returned to BYU and earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology. He completed his training as a Physician Assistant at Barry University in Miami, Florida; obtaining a Master of Clinical Medical Science.
He moved with his family to the Pacific Northwest and joined Proliance in 2002. He enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, coaching youth soccer, movies, reading, sports, just about any kind of music, and serving in his local community.

She has worked as a Physical Therapist in a variety of settings, mostly in the Boston area for more than 6 years. Darci then decided to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant and received a Masters degree for this at Northeastern University in Boston. She moved out to Seattle shortly after graduating with her husband, and is practicing as an Orthopedic PA.

Micah is a board certified Physician Assistant who joined Proliance in the fall of 2014. After growing up in Alaska, Micah attended Colorado State University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and then a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science. He worked for several years as a clinical monitor primarily with phase III and IV pharmaceutical research trials. He then returned to school where he completed his Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Idaho State University.
When not at work Micah enjoys spending time with his girlfriend traveling and doing most anything outdoors, from biking to skiing to scuba diving. He has run marathons in 27 states and is working towards completing marathons in all 50 states.

Nathan grew up in Wyoming where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Black Hills State University. He went on to graduate with honors from the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) as an officer in the United States Army and later obtained a Doctorate in clinical orthopedics from Baylor University. Nathan has training and experience within all sub-specialties of orthopedic surgery but has special interest in hand, wrist, elbow, and sports injuries. He derives great personal and professional satisfaction in helping patients understand their problem and treatment options so that they can best participate in their care.
Nathan’s passions are spending time with his wife, Leah, backpacking, skiing, running or just tinkering around their home. They have three children, Devyn, Tristan, and Madison who they adore and cherish.

Jason has met all the current requirements to practice as a certified Physician Assistant by the NCCPA. He currently assists in surgery, as well as sees patients in the clinical and hospital setting. While he enjoys the technical aspect of surgery, he also equally enjoys talking with patients and performing exams and procedures. He is experienced at interpreting diagnostic test, and helps to form a comprehensive treatment plan that will provide a solution to the patient’s problem.
Jason grew up in Eastern Washington and went to Washington State University for his undergraduate work, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Biology. He went on to graduate school at Rutgers University for his Physician Assistant training, receiving a Masters in Health Sciences. After this, he was accepted to an orthopedic post-graduate residency in Chicago. Through the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, at Lutheran General Hospital, he received intensive training in all the sub-specialties of orthopedics; these include joint replacement, trauma, spine, hand, foot, and sports medicine. He came back to settle in the northwest and has been with the practice since 1998.
He enjoys spending time with his family, as well as waterskiing, and mountain biking the many trails of the Pacific Northwest.

Mike began his medical training in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman. During this time he gained valuable medical experience and training. He served 6 years with the Fleet Marine Force during Desert Storm.
Mike graduated from the University of Washington School Of Medicine Physician Assistant Program in 2006. He assists in surgery, sees patients in the clinic, and he is an advocate for quality patient care. He takes great pride in his work and can develop specific treatment plans for those with simple to complex orthopedic needs.
He enjoys all aspects of orthopedic care with an emphasis on sports medicine injuries, total joint replacement, fracture care, osteochondral injuries, and meniscus transplantation.
When not at work Mike enjoys spending time with his family. They enjoy traveling, hiking, camping, fishing and just about anything outdoors.
