Dr. Akash Gupta is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery and reconstruction. His practice includes the treatment of common and complex foot and ankle conditions, including bunions, hammertoes, hallux rigidus, flatfoot deformity, ankle arthritis, tendon disorders, cartilage injuries, fractures, and sports-related injuries. He is one of a limited number of foot and ankle surgeons with specialized training in minimally invasive techniques, which can offer patients less pain, faster recovery, and smaller incisions for certain conditions.

Dr. Gupta grew up in Vancouver, Canada, and attended the University of Southern California through its combined Baccalaureate/MD program. During medical school, he spent an additional year performing orthopaedic biomechanics research, publishing his work in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals and presenting at national meetings.

He returned to the Pacific Northwest for his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Washington. His training included extensive experience at Harborview Medical Center, where he cared for patients with some of the most complex orthopaedic injuries and fractures in the region.

Dr. Gupta then completed fellowship training in Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. There, he received advanced training in complex reconstruction and deformity correction, ankle replacement, arthroscopy, cartilage disorders, tendon and ligament reconstruction, and sports-related foot and ankle injuries.

During his fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery, Dr. Gupta also gained experience caring for elite athletes and performers, including individuals from the NFL, NBA, NHL, professional tennis, USA Basketball, and the New York City Ballet.

Dr. Gupta’s approach to treatment is individualized and collaborative. He believes patients should understand both the cause of their symptoms and the full range of treatment options available to them. Whenever possible, he emphasizes nonsurgical treatment. When surgery is appropriate, his goal is to select the technique that provides the best combination of reliable correction, recovery, and long-term function.

After completing his training in Seattle and New York, Dr. Gupta practiced in Portland for nine years before returning to the Seattle area. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children and taking advantage of the outdoor activities of the Pacific Northwest.
